Does Fitness Affect Fishing?

Does Fitness Affect Fishing?

Today I want to revisit this topic because it is near and dear to my heart as I just got done running a half marathon a month ago. Growing up, Erik and I wanted to be fishing constantly. We would always ask to be dropped off the lake. Whenever we went on vacation, Erik and I always had to bring a rod with us in case there was somewhere to fish. Lot of times, we wouldn’t have a ride to a pond or lake so we had to walk or ride our bikes to get there. The nearest place to fish was about 2 miles away. We’d pack up our stuff and get moving, always getting weird looks from people driving. We must’ve looked strange with all that fishing gear and no water in sight. None the less, we would make it to the lake and go fishing.

So how does this tie into fitness. Walking or riding a bike 2 miles is no laughable task with 30 pounds of fishing gear on your back. If I wasn’t in decent physical shape, it would have been way more difficult, and we probably wouldn’t have done it.

This leads me to my first point. Physical fitness makes fishing so much easier. Standing all day takes a toll on your back. It takes even more of a toll when you are overweight. Making hundreds if not thousands of cast a day doesn’t make this any easier. However, being in decent physical shape allows you to perform better and come home feeling better. Your back and feet won’t hurt as much and you’ll have more energy.

Another thing to consider is the mental effects of being in shape. You’ll be more confident. You’ll make better decisions on the water as a result. This confidence will flow over to into different aspects of your life.

There are so many benefits to being in shape. One of them is upping your fishing game. And who doesn’t want to catch more fish? So take the time a few days a week to get in shape, and I promise you will not regret it. All areas of your life will improve. Plus, we want the Hall of Fame Fam to be a bunch of badass mfers. Thanks for reading and we will see you again next time!
