Response:
The younger generation of angler have been making waves in the Bassmaster Elite Series this year. Unless you've been living under a rock, or you just don't follow pro fishing, you probably already knew that. It has been one of the most talked about topics besides Forward Facing Sonar. The younger crew has done their best to make their mark on this era of fishing. Some say that's a good thing. Others say that's a bad thing. Today Im here for one thing: I want to know what Chat GPT says about it. I am going to keep my opinion unbiased and as fair as possible. We will go over some of the pros, as well as some of the reasons for their success.
The first part I want to respond to is a specific paragraph that doesn't mention any specific angler.
"Moreover, these young anglers are engaging with fans in new ways, leveraging social media and digital platforms to connect with a broader audience. Their ability to share their experiences and insights in real-time has helped grow the sport’s popularity and attract a younger generation of fans."
We all know KVD is the GOAT of fishing, but what many people don't talk about is how he revolutionized the game of fishing off the water. He changed the way marketing is done for the sponsors of fishing. Ken Duke of the podcast Bass After Dark says, "You don"t have to be KVD on the water, but you definitely have to be KVD off the water." If there was one thing these young guys do well, it's being KVD off the water. With the rise of social media, these anglers have done an excellent job of connecting with fans and sponsors. The game is different mow than it was twenty years ago. Pro bass fishing is more about sponsorships than it is about fishing. That's how these guys make their living. Any tournament money they win is just an extra.
Let's talk about technology. Being 25 years old, I am in the same generation of most of these guys mentioned above. We grew up with smart phone and the internet. We are the group that got to see technology's rise. I can remember a time when there were no cell phones. To see if your buddy wanted to fish, you'd have to look up their phone number and call their landline. This proved to be great advantage to many anglers when it comes to Forward Facing Sonar and other graphs. We were able to learn these things better because we grew up during their inception. Even with the changes in technology, we are able to change with it, because, again, we grew up with it.
Lot's of older anglers are not too thrilled with the changing of the guard. If I were them, I would be mad too. However, they have all the access to the same equipment and information as the young guys. Nowadays, anyone with a phone can learn almost anything through Youtube and Google. That's the reality. Your ability to learn correlates to your success in most things. These older anglers need to realize that. You can either change with the times, or continue to get beat.
I know there are people wondering: what about Trey McKinney! Chat GPT didn't mention Trey McKinney! Yes I know that. I'm going to talk about that now. Obviously, Trey is an amazing angler what is making a big splash in the bass fishing world. He is currently sitting in second place in the AOY behind Justin Hamner. He definitely falls into this group as well. Did I mention HE'S ONLY 19? That's insane at such a young age. Without a doubt a doubt he's one of the movers and shakers of the Elite Series. He is a prime example of what this blog post is about.
To wrap things up, I think these young anglers are good for the sport of fishing., regardless of what you think about FFS. These are exciting and controversial times in our sport. I am excited to see how it all pans out.
